We love Easter, not just for the chance to gather family and friends to celebrate, but also because we love the colors of spring. The pale greens, pinks, whisper blues, and soft sunny yellows inspire us. These are the colors we love to bring inside our homes, especially in the spring, to create beautiful and fun Easter tablescapes.
This setting features my mother’s pink vintage china, the first set she ever purchased as a young woman. She fell in love with its delicate feminine feel. It’s not precious, but I think it’s lovely. Does anyone out there have something similar? My mom has now passed it along to my daughter, but until she’s grown and on her own, I’m putting it to use!
We love the elegance that sterling and crystal lend the setting. Each time I set the table with them, it reminds me of family dinners from the past. I cherish those memories, but let’s be honest, we don’t dine off china everyday at our house, or even every holiday. Confession: There have been times I’ve been so overwhelmed that we’re lucky not to be using plastic and paper. That’s real life, right? Nevertheless, we’re happy to have a few treasures that have been passed along to us that we mix and match with thrift store finds. You can get a similar look by using everyday china and flatware. Use what you have, stir in some imagination, and have fun!
I hope to pass a love of family gatherings, and appreciation of heirlooms to my daughter, in hopes that she passes the tradition to her own family someday.
We love the freshness of blue and white. It works in any season, and looks sunny and happy on a spring table. The tiny nests and eggs ~ adorable ~ come from a local craft store and cost pennies, but they make such a cute addition to the table, and create a lighthearted tone.
Whenever possible, we use fresh flowers on the table. Primroses are a herald of spring, and the yellows look great with the blue and white china. Did you ever notice that the deep yellow ones have a faint lemon scent? Primroses or pansies are inexpensive and easy to find, and many grocery stores carry them. We wrapped these in burlap from a craft store and tied them with raffia. Incorporating rustic and refined materials is one of our favorite looks.
Since it’s Easter, invite a bunny or a chick to the table. Have fun with settings, and decorate with whimsy, especially when children will be attending. They will appreciate the care you’ve taken to think of them.
The hutch decorated for Easter.
This basket is perfect for a young girl who loves art and small luxuries.
A sense of whimsy lifts everyone’s mood, and says that formal dining can be fun.
Happy Easter!
