We’re all about tradition in New England, and Mother’s Day is one of the biggest days of the year. It’s a delight to plan special surprises for mom, and to let her know just how important she is to you.
We like to keep it fairly simple, but there are plenty of ways to make mom feel special. Here’s a few of our favorite ideas:
- Bring her breakfast in bed.
(Then climb in with her and snuggle, of course!)
2. Include flowers on her breakfast tray, because she’s worth every blossom. You don’t have to purchase expensive floral arrangements. Mom will love hand-picked blooms from your yard just as well.
3. Give her the gift of time ~ most busy moms don’t have much time to read for enjoyment. Books make a lovely gift, like this gardener’s favorite, An Island Garden, by Celia Thaxter. She will feel indulged and relaxed after curling up with a book for a while.
4. If your mom is anything like us, she never has time to take a bath, so give her another gift of time. Prepare a tray with small luxuries, like scented bubble bath, light a candle, and give mom an hour or so to totally relax. She’ll appreciate that you value her need to recharge.
5. Include handmade notes from kids, partners, even pets. (My cats sometimes leave me notes, dictated to my husband ~ haha!) We guarantee these will be her favorite part of the day!
If the weather is beautiful in your part of the country, treat mom to breakfast in the garden.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you!
