A Space That Grows With You
Tour the shabby chic bedroom of a young woman who wanted her room to reflect her love of all things Paris, pink, and romantic. With just a few years left until she leaves for college, the makeover had to bridge the years between teen and adult.
Keeping in mind that she would return home to this room during college visits and beyond, it had to feel mature enough to suit a young woman. She wanted to keep a few pieces from childhood, like her bed and a couple of stuffed animals. Sophisticated elements, like faux fur and a chandelier, provide balance.
Ballet Slipper Pink
Ballet slipper pink and soft whites were our starting point for the color scheme. We framed an old pair of her pointe ballet slippers to reflect her love of dance. The distressed frame and ballet slippers fits the shabby decor.
Benjamin Moore’s “Hint of Pink,” above, turned out to be the perfect tone.

Parisian Inspiration
Our teen, remembering a trip to Paris, wanted to feel like she was standing at the base of the Eiffel Tower, looking up. The soft blue of the sky framing the tower adds a gentle pop of color to the pink and white scheme.
We searched for an image that could be enlarged to at least 30″ X 48.” A local camera shop canvasized and wrapped the image.
An old window painted with feminine touches hangs above the bureau. We kept the chippy frame intact because it adds character. The distressed blue paint on the frame echoes the blue in the Eiffel Tower canvas.
Touches of Paris dot the room.

Vintage Imperfection
The two main pieces of furniture in the room, a vintage bureau, below, and the bedside table, above, carry their age with pride.
We sourced the bureau above from B Cheeky, a favorite local vintage and resale shop. The gold paint and hardware add a glamorous touch.
Create Shabby Chic Style in Your Home
Shabby chic style celebrates and embraces imperfections in furniture, fabrics, and other decorative pieces. It’s possible to purchase factory distressed new furniture, and that’s fine. If there are vintage or resale shops near you, however, take advantage. Many owners will finish pieces to your specifications and help you achieve the look.

Bits of Gold
Our teen loves the way her shabby chic bedroom incorporates her passions ~ Paris, dance, and ballet slipper pink. Daydreaming in her private space, she’s surrounded with memories and cherished objects. By switching out a few accessories over time, we’ve created a room that will grow with her.
