Entertaining is fun, but let’s be honest, it can be work. With a little advance planning, you can ensure that you’ll enjoy your soiree right along with your guests. Self-serve bars will take a load off your shoulders and let guests participate in the fun.
Indoor Bars
The bar below has been set up on a dining room buffet. Buffets are a good choice for bars because they have a large enough surface, with room for several people to circulate at one time. Incorporate decor that you already have so your bar is functional and attractive.
Place the bar away from your kitchen food prep area so you and your guests aren’t stepping on each other. Nearly any horizontal surface will work ~ your dining room table, a kitchen nook table, a bookcase, or an armoire shelf. Be creative and have fun!
Make space for several kinds of beverages (always offer non-alcoholic options), glasses, napkins, an ice bucket if needed, and tools like bottle openers. Corral as many of these as you can on a tray.
Make your bar pretty by adding candles and foliage or flowers. If you have space, add a piece of art or an interesting object from your collection.
Outdoor Bars
Get more casual with an outdoor bar that has all the necessary elements. Decorate according the the season. During high summer flags are especially festive.
Place trays in convenient locations so that guests have easy access to glasses, straws, and other serving essentials.
Happy entertaining!
