Every year for Christmas, my brother gives us gift cards for a family adventure. He believes spending time together, as a family, is more important than material items. In the past, we’ve received a whale watching excursion, tickets to the Boston Aquarium, passes to an amusement park, a season membership to the Franklin Zoo, and tickets to an indoor trampoline park. Every year, the kids look forward to what new adventure we will do in the new year. He’s a pretty awesome uncle!
This past Christmas, we received a pack of gift cards to Canmore Mountain Resort in the White Mountains of North Conway, NH. Our kids love to ski! We introduced our older two children to skiing the year they turned 6 and 4 years old. And, our youngest took an interest in learning 3 years ago when he turned 5. What originally started on a whim to experience a favorite New England sport has turned into a favorite family winter activity. Our older two children have become quite exceptional skiers, and I have no doubt our youngest will, too.
Despite a handful of bitterly cold days, this winter, for the most part New England has experienced an unusually warm winter with minimal snow fall. We finally had the chance to get away for a quick trip to Cranmore and were rewarded with a glorious weekend of spring skiing and tubing. There is nothing more rejuvenating then spending time outdoors in the fresh, crisp air.
We had dinner next to a roaring fire at the Muddy Moose Restaurant and Pub. Their spinach artichoke dip was pure creamy, cheesy deliciousness and the best thing is the kids don’t even realize they are eating spinach! I ordered the New England clam chowder…..nothing more satisfying than comfort food at the end of a winter day outdoors.
After, we arrived at our hotel for the evening just in time for a movie, popcorn and treats. The kids lounged on bean bag chairs, and my husband and I relaxed in front of the fire in the hotel lobby. It was a perfect winter day spent together.
